As some of you may or may not know, last semester I had a big project called Thesis! With this project we had to pick a theme and photograph up to 15 images following that theme. I picked the theme of architecture. The reason I picked architecture is because one day I want to specialize in interior design/architectural photography. I know it will take a while to get there, but the more practice I can get shooting architecture the more comfortable and confident I will become. So I thought picking architecture as a theme would get me the practice I needed and so desperately wanted. Thesis was a whirlwind, it happened so fast and it feels like there was no time to think! Which makes me so proud of my final result. I know where I made mistakes and where I could have done better, but with what I had to work with from the start I'm very happy with where I ended. I can honestly say I've become a much better photographer for it. I've most definitely learned from my mistakes and as crazy as it sounds I had fun doing it! I hope you enjoy watching my thesis and just as I had to during this project, I hope you always push yourself to be better!

Hi there! Welcome to my blog! I am new to this whole thing so bear with me while I explore the world that is blogging!
My first blog post is about a shoot I had yesterday morning! It was quite the experience! I was so lucky NAIT's cullinary head chef, Vinod, let me shoot some of the students dishes. The students had a practice run for a competition that night, which is why I had such an early wake up call... I set my alarm for 4:15 am sunday and told my friend, Shayla, who was assisting me to be at my place at 5:15. I grabbed the 50 pound profoto lighting kit and all the accessories to go along with it, hopped into my little car and off to NAIT we went. When we arrived at Ernests they had 6 incredible looking dishes ready for us to shoot, so we got right to it. It was challenging to light because I would typically light food using window light and maybe add in a reflector or fill flash but because the sun hadn't come up yet my goal was to re-create window light with the profoto kit. This was a lot harder than I expected and it took photographing about four different dishes before I finally got a look I was happy with. This was my first ever food shoot and it could have gone so terribly wrong but it turned out to be an awesome learning experience and a new portfolio image! I can't wait to share my final images with everyone, so keep your eyes open for some delish food shots! |
